Radiesse, Sculptra, or a blend
45 minutes, precise placement
Weeks to months, naturally
Radiesse combines immediate volume with calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres that stimulate collagen over time, ideal if you want to see a change straight away. Sculptra uses poly-L-lactic acid instead, working purely through gradual collagen renewal for a subtler build. Published research has shown the two trigger genuinely different biological pathways to reach a similar, natural result.
A single Radiesse session is often enough to see a noticeable change. Sculptra is designed differently, the manufacturer's own guidance recommends a course of 3 sessions, spaced at least 3 to 4 weeks apart.
Radiesse typically lasts 12 to 18 months, with the manufacturer reporting collagen production continuing for up to a year and elastin for up to 9 months after a single treatment. Sculptra tends to last longer, often up to 2 years, with 95% of patients rating their skin's glow as improved at the two-year mark in the manufacturer's own studies.
Minimal for both treatments. Some redness, swelling, or mild bruising at the injection points is common and usually settles within a few days, and most people return to their normal routine the same day.
Sculptra follows the manufacturer's "5-5-5" rule: massage the area for 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days, helping the product distribute evenly. Radiesse doesn't require this, though both benefit from avoiding strenuous exercise, sun, and heat for 24 to 48 hours.
Most adults noticing early to moderate loss of skin firmness are suitable. A short consultation confirms it's right for you, taking your medical history into account.
Standard dermal filler adds volume directly and holds its shape until it gradually breaks down. Biostimulators work differently, triggering your own body to rebuild collagen, ageing more naturally over time.
